This classic book by Geoffrey Moore is about getting over the “chasm” between the early-adopter and early-majority stages of the technology-adoption life cycle. This life cycle is a powerful reference model for existing markets, but starting a non-existent two-sided market presents additional problems.

The typical way that has worked for starting a platform-based two-sided market is to find some innovators, design a platform for them, and then watch closely and respond with mid-course corrections. The “Launch” chapter of the “Platform Revolution” book describes eight models for starting a new platform-based market.
